Royal Tunbridge Wells is situated in west Kent, about 33 miles (53 km) southeast of central London, bordering the county of East Sussex, at the northern edge of the High Weald. The town came into being as a spa in Georgian times and had its heyday as a tourist resort under Richard (Beau) Nash when the Pantiles and its chalybeate spring attracted visitors and Royalty who wished to take the waters.
The town is renowned for its excellent selection of educational facilities for children of all ages, including state, independent and grammar schools for girls and boys. The town is also well suited to commuters with a direct train service to London (Charing Cross, London Bridge and Cannon Street) in about 50/55 minutes. The A21, to the north of the town, provides a direct access to the M25 national motorway network for the Channel Tunnel terminal, Channel Ports, Gatwick and Heathrow Airports.
