This summer the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has launched its yearly ‘Tips before Travelling’ campaign as part of its efforts to raise awareness on the sensible use of electricity and water, reducing waste, and following safety guidelines. Also to keep your home safe and your bills to a minimum spent.
Since many people leave the UAE during summer for long holidays, following these guidelines will not only save natural resources but also give peace of mind.
Bathroom can accumulate almost 30 per cent of all indoor water use, more than any other fixture or appliance, according to DEWA. It is advised, if you have a swimming pool which and don’t want to drain it, cover it to reduce evaporation. An average size pool left uncovered can lose as much as 1,000 gallons (3,785 litres) of water per month.
— Make sure all lights are switched off.
— Unplug electrical appliances and electronics to save energy. Don’t put them on standby mode.
— Make sure there are no water leaks in the house and check all taps and internal pipes in bathrooms and kitchens.
— Shut off the water supply to avoid any water leakage.
